The Malaysian Orthopaedic Association (MOA) Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) is the largest gathering point for the Malaysian Orthopaedic fraternity. In 2019, the ASM gathered a record attendance of 1556 Orthopaedic surgeons, master trainees, medical doctors, house officers, research assistants, nurses, and allied health professionals. Apart from updating knowledge, it was an opportunity to reunite with friends and colleagues as well as catch up with the latest offerings in the industry. For the junior associates, it provided the chance to present your work in the meeting and to start connecting with leading figures in our field.
Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has shaken our world and as a result, the 2020 MOA ASM had to be rescheduled.
Most importantly, the MOA has had to review how this meeting should be conducted.
In the interest of protecting the health, safety and well-being of our members, guests and industry partners, the MOA Council and ASM Organising Committee has decided to run the meeting virtually with the last day of the meeting dedicated to the eagerly anticipated and highly contested awards presentations.
The 50th MOA ASM in conjunction with the 40th AOA Annual Congress will be held from 22nd to the 26th of June 2021, a five day virtual event. This is the first time in our history that we will be attempting this, so we are indeed excited about it.
The scientific team have a stimulating scientific programme in the wings, with debates, discussions, contests, and virtual booths where you can ‘walk in’! The last day will be a physical meeting including the various awards ceremony and the MOA AGM.
By going virtual, we also warmly welcome the submission of abstracts from our ASEAN colleagues. All accepted abstracts will be presented either as an virtual oral or virtual e-poster presentation in the virtual meeting platform which will be made available for a whole year.
It is said that this pandemic has accelerated the way we adopt technology and digitalisation in our lives. Thus, we encourage our fellow colleagues to actively participate and embrace the new future of the MOA ASM.
See you online!
Take care, stay safe.
